FBI Announces Arrest of Armed Robbery Crew

Two Chicago men suspected of carrying out multiple armed robberies in the Chicago area have been arrested, announced Michael J. Anderson, special agent in charge the Chicago Field Office of the FBI; Chicago Police Department Superintendent Eddie Johnson; and University of Illinois (UIC) Police Chief Kevin Booker. Members of the FBI Chicago Violent Crimes Task Force, along with officers from UIC and Chicago Police Departments, took Michael Hayes, 54, of the 500 block of East 77th Street, Chicago, and Tyrone Cole, 47, of the 7700 block of South Calumet Ave, Chicago, into custody without incident on June 28, 2016, in the city of Chicago. Both are charged in Cook County Circuit court with two felony counts of armed robbery with a firearm for allegedly robbing the Subway restaurant at 1252 South Halsted Street in Chicago on June 7, 2016, and the 7-Eleven convenience store located at 1350 South Halsted in Chicago on June 22, 2016. Additional charges are pending regarding recent robberies of other Chicago area businesses. The suspects were scheduled to appear in Cook County bond court Wednesday afternoon.

The Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force is composed of FBI special agents, detectives from the Chicago Police Department, and investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s Police.
