Reward Increased in Search for Midday Bandit

Robert J. Holley, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), announced today the reward being offered for information leading to the arrest of a serial bank robber dubbed the “Midday Bandit” is being increased to $10,000 following two recent Chicago-area bank robberies attributed to him. The latest occurred on August 3 at the U.S. Bank branch located at 6020 West Roosevelt Road in Oak Park, Illinois. The total number of bank robberies he is suspected of committing now stands at eight.

The robber earned his moniker based on the time of day the bank robberies were reported. They all occurred primarily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.:

  1. TCF Bank, 8801 South Ridgeland, Oak Lawn, Illinois, 10:21 a.m. on June 10, 2014.
  2. TCF Bank, 1952 West Galena Blvd, Aurora, 11:38 a.m. on July 9, 2014.
  3. TCF Bank, 6107 South Archer Ave, Chicago, 9:37 a.m. on August 18, 2014.
  4. TCF Bank, 2301 North. Harlem Ave., 12:50 p.m. on September 22, 2014.
  5. Plaza Bank, 3555 North Harlem Ave., 3:30 p.m. on November 13, 2014.
  6. Hoyne Savings Bank. 7001 West Grand Ave., 3:30 p.m. on November 14, 2014.
  7. TCF Bank, 2301 North Harlem Ave, Chicago, 1:47p.m. on July 17, 2015.

The Midday Bandit is also suspected of attempting to rob two other Chicago area banks in July and August 2014. On each occasion, a robber entered the bank, approached a bank employee, and made a demand for money while threatening harm to bank employees and customers. To date, there have been no physical injuries reported in connection with the robberies.

The Midday Bandit is described by witnesses as a male, black, in his mid-20’s, 5’11” tall, weighing approximately 160 pounds, with facial hair. He has worn glasses and a variety of hats during the robberies. He is considered armed and dangerous.
