FBI Honors Chicago’s 100 Club with the Director’s Community Leadership Award

Special Agent in Charge Robert J. Holley announced today that the 100 Club of Chicago has been named the recipient of the FBI Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA) for the Chicago Division. The 100 Club was chosen for the award in recognition of decades of support it has provided to the families of fallen public safety professionals.

For nearly 50 years, the 100 Club of Chicago has provided financial assistance, access to resources, and moral support to the surviving spouses and dependents of law enforcement officers, firefighters, and paramedics who lost their lives in the line of duty. To ease the financial burden faced by affected families, the 100 Club provides $50,000 immediately following a loss of life. The Club also assists with future expenses by pledging support for the on-going higher education needs of the children left behind. To date, this membership-based organization has provided benefits to more than 256 families and has offered educational assistance to 512 dependents.

The award will be presented to Joseph Ahern, CEO of the 100 Club, at a luncheon scheduled for 11:30 a.m. tomorrow at Joe’s Seafood at 20 East Grand Avenue in Chicago. Mr. Ahern, a 2006 graduate of the FBI Chicago Citizens Academy, will also represent the 100 Club at an awards ceremony to be held in Washington, D.C. in May, where FBI Director James B. Comey will personally recognize and honor the DCLA recipients from the 56 field offices across the nation.

The DCLA was established in 1990 to publicly recognize individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism and drugs, and engaging the community in areas of education and crime prevention. Each FBI office’s special agent in charge annually recommends to the FBI Director a recipient who has made a significant difference in the lives of others and is deemed worthy of this prestigious award.
