Robert J. Holley, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Office of the FBI, and Zachary T. Fardon, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois, today announced that a Chicago man arrested shortly after a Tuesday morning bank robbery is now facing a federal charge.

Larry Dollar, 43, of the 4500 block of North Hazel Street, was charged in a criminal complaint filed this morning in U.S. District Court in Chicago with one count of bank robbery, a felony offense, in connection with the robbery that occurred at an MB Financial Bank branch located at 3940 N. Damen Ave. in Chicago. Dollar appeared earlier today before U.S. Magistrate Judge Mary M. Rowland, who ordered him held pending his next court appearance, scheduled for Tuesday, March 17 at 10:00 a.m.

According to the complaint, the robber entered the bank at approximately 10:15 a.m. Tuesday and, after getting a cup of coffee, left the bank, only to return a few minutes later. Upon his return, the robber approached a bank employee, demanded $10,000, and told the employee he had a gun, according to the complaint. He left the bank on foot and was last seen by witnesses headed south along Damen Ave.

A description of the robber was broadcast to Chicago Police Department personnel, and a short time later, two CPD officers who were a few blocks from the bank’s location noticed an individual matching the description of the robber. That individual, later identified as Dollar, was taken into custody by the officers and subsequently turned over to the FBI.

If convicted of the charge filed against him, Dollar faces a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison.

The public is reminded that a complaint is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
