Charges Filed in South Suburban Bank Robberies

FBI Chicago November 21, 2011
  • Special Agent Garrett Croon (312) 829-1199

A 46-year-old Oak Forest man was arrested last week by FBI special agents, after being charged by a federal grand jury in Chicago with the robbery of two south suburban banks in 2007.

ROBERT J. PIEKOSZ was charged with the January 11, 2007 robbery of the TCF Bank branch, located at 9350 West 159th Street in Orland Park and the August 30, 2007 robbery of the TCF Bank branch, located at 17717 South Harlem Avenue in Tinley Park.

Though not charged, PIEKOSZ is also a suspect in the December 2006 robberies of the Charter One Bank branch in Braidwood and the Harris Bank branch in Manhattan.

After appearing in U.S. District Court in Chicago on Wednesday, PIEKOSZ was released on a $35,000 bond while awaiting trial.

The Braidwood, Manhattan, Oak Forest, Orland Park, and Tinley Park Police Departments assisted with the investigation, along with the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
