FBI Joins Search for Chicago Murder Suspect

FBI Chicago July 06, 2009
  • Special Agent Garrett Croon (312) 829-1199

Robert D. Grant, Special Agent-in-Charge of the Chicago office of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) announced today that the FBI has joined the search for JARELL Q. GRIFFIN, age 23, whose last known address is 12219 South Vincennes in Blue Island, Illinois.

GRIFFIN is wanted by the Chicago Police Department (CPD) for the September 2008 shooting death of a 24-year old Dolton man, during an apparent robbery attempt on the city’s south side. Investigation by the CPD identified GRIFFIN as the robber and a warrant for his arrest was issued, earlier this year. Attempts by the CPD to locate and apprehend GRIFFIN have been unsuccessful, with information developed indicating that GRIFFIN might have fled the state.

A Federal warrant charging GRIFFIN with Unlawful Flight to Avoid Prosecution was recently filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago, making GRIFFIN the subject of a nationwide manhunt coordinated by the Chicago FBI.

GRIFFIN is described as a black/male, 6’ 3” tall, 155 lbs., thin build, with black hair and brown eyes. He is known to use the alias of “J” and has family and friends in both California and Louisiana.

Anyone recognizing GRIFFIN or having any information about his current whereabouts is asked to call the Chicago FBI at (312) 421-6700.

This case is being investigated by the Chicago FBI’s Violent Crimes Task Force, which is comprised of FBI Special Agents, Detectives from the Chicago Police Department and Investigators from the Cook County Sheriff’s office.

EDITOR’S NOTE: Additional copies of the attached wanted flyer are available from the Chicago FBI’s press office at (312) 829-1199.
