ROCHESTER, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that Shawn Green, 29, of Palmyra, N.Y., who was convicted of possession of child pornography, was sentenced to one day in prison and 10 years’ supervised release by U.S. District Judge David G. Larimer.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Tiffany H. Lee, who handled the case, stated that law enforcement officers discovered child pornography on the defendant’s computers while executing a search warrant at his Palmyra residence in 2009. The search warrant was issued after a 2008 investigation revealed that the Internet protocol address assigned to Green’s residence was sharing images of child pornography. Approximately 52 images and two videos were discovered on two computers. The parties had agreed that the applicable sentencing guidelines range for the offense was a period of between 70-87 months in prison.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Led by United States Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section (CEOS), Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
