Former Niagara Falls Police Officer Admits Threatening an Inmate in the Chautauqua County Jail

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 01, 2010
  • Western District of New York (716) 843-5700

BUFFALO, NY—U.S. Attorney William J. Hochul, Jr. announced today that former Niagara Falls Police Officer Ryan Warme, in jail awaiting sentencing on several other charges, admitted to threatening another inmate during an appearance before District Judge Richard J. Arcara.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Anthony M. Bruce, who is handling the case, stated that Warme admitted that on May 17, 2010, while he was an inmate at the Chautauqua County Jail in Mayville, he threatened to harm another inmate and that inmate’s family after he got out of jail. Warme admitted that he made the threats because the inmate, who was to be a witness at his trial, cooperated with the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives and testified before a federal grand jury.

Warme pleaded guilty on April 22, 2010 to dealing in crack cocaine, using and carrying his Niagara Falls Police Department-issued pistol during a drug transaction (with the witness he threatened), and to a misdemeanor civil rights violation. He is awaiting sentencing scheduled for December 22, 2010.

Under the terms of Warme’s, he faced a probable sentence of 120 to 131 months. As a result of today’s admission, Warme now faces a likely sentence of 157 to 181 months. He remains in jail pending sentencing.
