The Rhode Island Department of Health’s State Medical Examiner’s Office, with the assistance of the FBI Laboratory in Quantico, Virginia, has positively identified the human remains recovered in Providence, Rhode Island by the FBI’s Evidence Response Team on March 31, 2016. Through DNA analysis, the remains were determined to be that of Steven A. Disarro, of Westwood, Massachusetts. Mr. Disarro was 43 years old when he was last seen in 1993.

The Medical Examiner’s Office has accepted the technical review from the FBI Laboratory as evidence of identification and has authorized the release of the remains to his family.

Mr. Disarro’s remains were found buried in the back of the property located at 715 Branch Avenue in Providence, Rhode Island.

The FBI notified Mr. Disarro’s family of the findings. The family requests that members of the media respect their need for privacy. “We’d like to express our sincere thanks and appreciation for all the efforts that went into locating Steven. We look forward to the conclusion of the FBI’s investigation so we can learn as much as possible about what really happened to Steven and finally get some closure for our family,” stated Steven’s wife, Pamela Disarro.

“For 23 years, the family of Mr. Disarro has been awaiting news of his whereabouts. The thoughts and prayers of everyone in the FBI are with them during this difficult time. Our investigation will continue to pursue those responsible for Mr. Disarro’s death in an effort to bring them to justice,” said Harold H. Shaw.

Special Agent in Charge Harold H. Shaw thanks the Providence Police Department, the Rhode Island State Police, and the Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office for the assistance they provided to the FBI at the time Mr. Disarro’s remains were recovered.

As this remains an ongoing investigation, no additional information or comment will be provided at this time.
