Fairfield Man Sentenced to More Than Three Years for Assisting Bank Robber

BANGOR, ME—United States Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty, II announced that Forrest T. Goodwin, Jr., 34, of Fairfield, was sentenced today in U.S. District Court in Bangor, by Chief Judge John A. Woodcock, Jr., to three-and-a-half years’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release for being an accessory after the fact to the armed robbery of a federal credit union. He was also ordered to pay $1,700 in restitution and a $2,000 fine. Goodwin was convicted after a jury trial on June 27, 2012.
Court records and evidence produced at trial reveal that in June 2009, Paul Garland robbed a teller at the Taconnet Federal Credit Union in Skowhegan, Maine, at knifepoint, obtaining $9,147. After the armed robbery, Garland fled from the credit union on the back of a motorcycle driven by Goodwin. Garland and Goodwin rode to Goodwin’s residence where they changed clothes and then fled in Goodwin’s truck. Garland paid Goodwin $1,700 from the proceeds of the robbery.
The investigation was conducted jointly by the Skowhegan Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
