Haverhill Man Convicted on Federal Drug Trafficking Charges

BOSTON—TIMOTHY MOYNIHAN, 36, of Haverhill was convicted today by a jury sitting before United States District Court Chief Judge Mark L. Wolf of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute more than 28 grams of cocaine base, also known as “crack cocaine” and cocaine, and four counts of possession with intent to distribute cocaine base.
Chief Judge Wolf scheduled MOYNIHAN’s sentencing for January 24, 2011. As a career offender under federal law, and based on the drug quantity and his prior drug trafficking conviction, MOYNIHAN faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and a maximum sentence of life in prison.
United States Attorney Carmen M. Ortiz, Richard DesLauriers, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division; Colonel Marian McGovern, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police; Essex County Sheriff Frank G. Cousins; Middlesex County Sheriff Peter J. Koutoujian; and Chief Alan R. DeNaro of the Harverhill Police Department made the announcement today. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Peter K. Levitt in Ortiz’s Strike Force Unit.
