Pinson Man Sentenced to 12 ½ Years for Receipt of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office June 30, 2010
  • Northern District of Alabama (205) 244-2001

BIRMINGHAM—A federal judge today sentenced a Pinson man to 12 ½ years in prison for receiving child pornography, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance.

U.S. District Judge Inge P. Johnson sentenced CURTIS EARL ESTES, 38, to 151 months in prison, to be followed by 20 years of supervised release. ESTES also must register as a sex offender.

Court records show that between Jan. 1, 2009, and Aug. 1, 2009, in Jefferson County, ESTES used the Internet to receive images of child pornography. ESTES admitted to receiving child pornography for five to seven years. According to his plea agreement and sentencing documents, he also received images of child pornography on his cell phone from a 14-year-old.

“Individuals who collect images of child pornography are victimizing children and are guilty of a crime of violence,” Vance said. “Individuals who talk to children on the phone and receive live pornographic images from them deserve a significant prison sentence and to register as a sex offender.”

The case was investigated by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the FBI. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel J. Fortune is prosecuting the matter.
