Hoover Man Arrested for Possession of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office April 01, 2010
  • Northern District of Alabama (205) 244-2001

BIRMINGHAM—The FBI on Wednesday arrested JAMES EDWARD CORBITT, 34, at his Hoover apartment on charges of receiving and possessing child pornography, U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance and FBI Special Agent in Charge Patrick Maley announced.

The arrest followed the execution of a federal search warrant by FBI agents at CORBITT’S residence on Wednesday. The search revealed multiple images of child pornography on his computer.

CORBITT worked as a part-time, seventh-grade coach at a middle school in Hoover.

“Anyone who views and possesses child pornography contributes to the victimization of children by supporting an industry that survives off the abuse of the young and innocent,” Vance said. “We always vigorously prosecute these type cases because our children deserve to be protected,” she said.

CORBITT is being held on the federal charges in the Shelby County Jail. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert Armstrong Jr., in a detention hearing Thursday, ordered CORBITT to remain in custody.

Members of the public are reminded that a defendant is presumed innocent of charges. It will be the government’s burden to prove a defendant’s guilt at trial.
