Birmingham Man Sentenced for Forging Check Endorsement

U.S. District Judge Sharon Lovelace Blackburn today sentenced a Birmingham man to a year and a day in prison in prison for forging an endorsement on a check, announced U.S. Attorney Joyce White Vance.

Michael Lynn Whitehead, 54, was a wholesale car dealer in the Roebuck-Huffman area. He pleaded guilty in July to one count of forging a car dealership’s name on a check. Judge Blackburn ordered him to pay $128,400 to Air National Guard Credit Union.

According to Whitehead’s plea agreement with the government, he forged endorsements on several checks to local car dealerships between October 2002 and June 2004 and deposited the proceeds into his personal bank account.

The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Hodge prosecuted the case on behalf of the United States.
