Notification of Press Conference

The press conference will be held in the lobby of the U.S. Attorney’s office and hosted by the USAO.

It will be August 30, 2011 at 11:00

The press conference will last for about 15 minutes (no more than 30 minutes) with press able to ask questions after.

Purpose: Director Bernard Melekian will be speaking for the COPS Office (Office of Community Oriented Policing Services) and will be announcing the two grants for Fulton County and DeKalb County, as well as the national announcement for the Child Sexual Predator Prosecution grant program. Twenty grants totaling $9.2 million will be awarded to agencies across the country. The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office will be receiving $352,803 ($20,000 was actually added to that grant this morning). DeKalb County will be receiving $496,793.

DeKalb’s invited speakers will be:

  • Assistant USAO, John Horne on behalf of Sally Yates (nominating official)
  • Burrell Ellis, CEO
  • W.Z. Miller, Public Safety Director or Chief William O’Brien, DKPD Chief of Police
  • Vernon Keenan, GBI

Fulton County invited speakers will be:

  • Kaffie McCullough, Juvenile Justice Fund Program Director of a Future not a Past
  • State Senator Renee Unterman, introduced legislation to increase penalties for pimps
  • Beverly Harvard, U.S. Marshal (nominating official)
  • Paul Howard, District Attorney, Fulton County

The USAO will be out of town, so the meeting will be hosted by the Assistant USAO, John Horne

Again, this will take place in the southern lobby (P level) of the Richard Russell Federal Building at 75 Spring Street, Tuesday, August 30, 2011 at 11:00.
