One of the victims died at the scene and the other died shortly thereafter. Investigation determined that Michael Jason Registe was allegedly responsible for these killings. Two felony arrest warrants were obtained charging Registe with the murders. On July 23, 2007, a criminal complaint was obtained and a federal arrest warrant was issued charging Registe with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution in the U.S. District Court, Middle District of Georgia/Columbus, Georgia.

Registe is also wanted on an unrelated charge of aggravated assault that occurred in 2005, also in Columbus, Georgia. The victim in the 2005 shooting survived but was severely wounded.

Registe was apprehended on the island of St. Maarten.

The above are mere allegations and the public should be reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
