Anchorage Man Sentenced to 12 Years in Federal Prison for Credit Union Robbery

ANCHORAGE, AK—United States Attorney Karen L. Loeffer announced today, February 8, 2010, that Jarell Paul Arnold, a resident of Anchorage, Alaska, was sentenced in federal court in Anchorage to 144 months in prison for his conviction on one count of credit union robbery. Arnold pled guilty to the charge in October 2009.
Chief United States District Court Judge Ralph R. Beistline imposed the sentence on Arnold, age 34.
According to information presented to the court by Assistant United States Attorney Craig M. Warner, who prosecuted the case, Arnold presented a teller at Alaska USA Federal Credit Union with his identification card and requested that she check his account balance. When the bank teller reported that his account was empty, Arnold stated that he had a firearm and demanded money.
Prior to imposing sentence, Judge Beistline noted the defendant’s significant history of criminal conduct and the need to protect the public. At the time of the offense, Arnold was on supervised release after conviction for a prior bank robbery.
Ms. Loeffler commended the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Anchorage Police Department for the investigation leading to the successful prosecution of Arnold.
