U.S. Attorney’s Office July 23, 2009
  • District of Alaska (907) 271-5071

ANCHORAGE—Acting United States Attorney Kevin Feldis announced today, July 23, 2009, that Sidney Lamar Greene, of Anchorage, Alaska, was indicted by a federal grand jury in Anchorage in a superseding indictment on one charge of possession of child pornography, one charge of producing child pornography, one charge of sex trafficking of a minor child, one charge of using a facility of interstate commerce to promote prostitution, and one charge of tampering with a victim.

The five-count superseding indictment named Greene, age 38, as the sole defendant.

According to the superseding indictment, Greene is alleged to have produced pornographic images of a minor in 1998, and of possessing those images in 2009. He is also alleged to have attempted to traffic a minor under the age of 18 in 2008, and of using a facility of interstate commerce to promote prostitution in 2008. The tampering with a witness charge relates to the victim of the child pornography charges.

Assistant United States Attorney Daniel R. Cooper, Jr. and Chantel L. Febus, Trial Attorney, Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Criminal Division, Department of Justice, who presented the case to the grand jury, indicated that the law provides for a maximum sentence of ten years in prison for possession of child pornography, 15 to 20 years in prison for production of child pornography, 10 years to life imprisonment for sex trafficking of a minor, five years in prison for using the internet to promote prostitution, and up to 20 years in prison for tampering with a victim. Upon conviction, the defendant also faces fines totaling up to $1,250,000, registration as a sex offender, and five years to life on supervised release. Under the Federal Sentencing Guidelines, the actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant. Greene has been detained since his arrest on the initial indictment on May 21, 2009.

The Anchorage Police Department Vice Unit, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Internal Revenue Service - Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation leading to the indictment in this case.

An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government must prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
