Arrest Made in Officer-Related Shooting on Navajo Reservation

Victor Tyler, 44, of Shiprock, was arrested Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in connection with the officer-related shooting that occurred in Shiprock, New Mexico, on the Navajo Indian Reservation, on Friday night (August 16, 2013).

Tyler is expected to appear in U.S. District Court in Albuquerque on Wednesday.

Tyler was arrested by Shiprock Criminal Investigations officers from the Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety and turned over to the FBI.

Navajo Police officers responded to a report of a disturbance at an apartment complex at approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday.

An altercation ensued involving Tyler and the officers.

Tyler was shot, but his injuries were not life-threatening.

An officer suffered a stab wound to the foot.

The shooting is under investigation by the FBI and Navajo Nation Division of Public Safety.

No further information will be released until after Tyler’s court appearance.
