Shiprock Man Sentenced to Prison for Federal Sexual Contact Conviction

ALBUQUERQUE—On October 5, 2012, a federal judge sentenced David John George, 56, a member of the Navajo Nation who resides in Shiprock, New Mexico, to a two-year term of imprisonment for his abusive sexual contact conviction. George will be on supervised release for five years after completing his prison sentence. He also will be required to register as a sex offender.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales said that George has been in federal custody since his arrest on a criminal complaint on September 21, 2012.
On June 20, 2012, George entered a guilty plea to a criminal information charging him with sexually assaulting a female by intentionally touching her genitalia over and through her clothing. In entering his guilty plea, George admitted that on the afternoon of September 2, 2011, he sexually violated a female over the age of 18 when she knocked on the door of his residence and inquired about the whereabouts of her sister. George admitted that he pulled the woman into his home and intentionally touched her genitalia without her permission.
The case was investigated by the Farmington Resident Agency of the FBI, with assistance from the Shiprock Division of the Navajo Nation Department of Public Safety, and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Kyle T. Nayback.
