Isleta Pueblo Woman Sentenced to Prison for Aggravated Assault Conviction

ALBUQUERQUE—This afternoon, a federal judge in Albuquerque sentenced Carleen Christina Jojola, 37, an enrolled member and resident of Isleta Pueblo, to 10 months in prison for her aggravated assault conviction. Jojola will be on supervised release for a year after she completes her prison sentence. She also was ordered to pay $48,000 in restitution to cover the costs of her victim’s medical expenses.
Jojola was arrested on January 4, 2012, on a criminal complaint alleging that she assaulted another Isleta Pueblo woman on January 1, 2012. She has been in federal custody since that time.
On July 18, 2012, Jojola plead guilty to a criminal information charging her with aggravated assault. In her plea agreement, Jojola admitted that she stabbed the victim of her assault with a steak knife during an argument that escalated into a physical altercation. According to the plea agreement, the assault occurred at a residence located on Isleta Pueblo land.
The case was investigated by the Albuquerque Office of the FBI, the Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of Justice Services, Southern Pueblos Agency, and the Isleta Pueblo Tribal Police Department and was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Presiliano Torrez.
