Las Cruces Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Possession of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office November 08, 2010
  • District of New Mexico (505) 346-7274

United States Attorney Kenneth J. Gonzales announced that earlier today Jason Boy, 25, of Las Cruces, New Mexico, was sentenced in federal court in Las Cruces to 46 months' imprisonment based on his conviction for possession of child pornography. Boy’s term of imprisonment will be followed by five years of supervised release. Boy also will be required to register as a sex offender upon his release from prison.

According to the indictment, on October 18, 2006, Boy knowingly possessed a computer that contained visual depictions of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct. Boy was arrested on February 24, 2009, and has been in custody since his arrest. The child pornography charge against Boy stemmed from an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

The case was prosecuted by Sarah M. Davenport, Assistant United States Attorney, as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse. Led by U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the Criminal Division’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to better locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet, as well as to identify and rescue victims.
