Court Hearing for Two Suspects in Navajo Reservation Homicide

FBI Albuquerque September 22, 2010
  • Public Affairs Specialist Frank Fisher (505) 889-1438

Two men arrested by the FBI today in connection with a September 4 homicide near Crownpoint are scheduled to have an initial hearing in Albuquerque on Thursday.

Calvin E. Augustine and Byron C. Pahe, both 20 years old, are charged with second-degree murder in the death of Vinton B. Wally, 43, who died presumably from a gunshot wound.

Augustine and Pahe are to appear before Chief U.S. Magistrate Judge Richard Puglisi in federal court at 9 a.m.

Navajo Police had arrested the men on separate tribal charges on September 4.

Brian Thompson, 20, also is charged with second-degree murder in the case. He was arrested on September 16 and had an initial hearing the next day.

All three men also are charged with aiding and abetting.

A fourth individual is still in the custody of the Navajo Nation.

Wally's son, Nathaniel R. Wally, 24, was wounded in the incident.
