Watertown Man Sentenced for Bank Robbery

United States Attorney Richard S. Hartunian announced today that William Clarence Haymond Pitoniak, 38, formerly of 159 Mullin Street in Watertown, New York, was sentenced in U.S. District Court in Utica to 48 months’ imprisonment, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and restitution to Key Bank of $12,998.00. U.S. District Judge David N. Hurd remanded Pitoniak to custody immediately upon imposition of sentence.

Pitoniak had pled guilty on November 3, 2011 to robbing the Key Bank at 1308 Washington Street on June 16, 2011. During the robbery, no weapon was displayed. Pitoniak was apprehended by members of the Watertown Police Department following a brief car chase during his flight from the scene of the robbery.

The case was investigated by the Watertown Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Edward R. Broton.
