U.S. Attorney's Office August 04, 2009
  • District of Vermont (802) 951-6725

The Office of the United States Attorney for the District of Vermont stated that Brian T. Comiskey, 25, of Johnson, Vermont, was arrested today on charges that he robbed the Hyde Park branch of Union Bank in Hyde Park, Vermont on February 27, 2009. Comiskey appeared before the Honorable John M. Conroy who ordered Comiskey detained temporarily pending further proceedings in the case.

According to Court documents, Comiskey, a former employee of Union Bank in Stowe, Vermont, pointed a firearm at two bank tellers during the robbery. The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation have recovered a weapon believed to have been used in the robbery.

Comiskey is charged with bank robbery in violation of 18 U.S.C. § 2113(a). The United States Attorney emphasizes that the charges contained in the complaint are merely accusations and that the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until he is proven guilty. If he is convicted, Comiskey faces a maximum possible term of imprisonment of 20 years, however the actual sentence in the event of a conviction will be determined in accordance with the federal sentencing guidelines. Comiskey is represented by Federal Public Defender Michael Desautels, of Burlington, Vermont.

The Lamoille County Sheriff’s Department, the Vermont State Police, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation conducted the investigation in the case. The United States Attorney commended these agencies for their persistence and hard work to secure the arrest. Assistant U.S. Attorney Eugenia A. P. Cowles prosecuted the case.
