Corey Frazier Ellis was named chief of staff to the Director of the FBI in November 2024.

Corey Frazier Ellis was named chief of staff to the Director of the FBI in November 2024. This is Corey’s second term in the role before being appointed as interim United States attorney for the District of South Carolina in December 2021. Corey served as chief of staff to the Director of the FBI for all of 2021.

From September 2019 to January 2021, Mr. Ellis served as acting director of the Executive Office for United States Attorneys, where he was the primary liaison between the attorney general, the deputy attorney general, and the 94 United States attorney offices.

Previously, he served in several leadership roles in the Department of Justice, including chief of staff to Deputy Attorney General Rod J. Rosenstein. Mr. Ellis was also the first assistant in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of North Carolina. While an assistant United States attorney, he handled a wide range of criminal investigations including public corruption, white-collar fraud, securities fraud, and cybercrime. Mr. Ellis began his career as a prosecutor in the District Attorney's Office in Hendersonville, North Carolina, and has tried more than 100 jury trials.

Mr. Ellis received his bachelor's degree from Brown University and his Juris Doctor from the University of Memphis, School of Law.
