Qualifications include the following:

  • BS in a chemical or biological science or medical technology
  • At least one year's previous experience in medical-testing or drug-testing laboratories
  • Familiarity with chain-of-custody documentation
  • Good laboratory practices
  • Extensive instrument knowledge
  • Ability to work to standard operating procedures guidelines
  • Experience in one or more of the following: EMIT, GC, TLC, and fully conversant with GC/MS
  • Data entry experience
  • Ability to be flexible to move from one task to the next
  • Manual dexterity
  • Thorough understanding of English, written and spoken
  • Proven attention to detail

Responsibilities include the following:

  • Preparing reagents and calibrators
  • Receiving, transferring, and disposing of specimens
  • Processing specimens for analysis
  • Operating and maintaining Hewlett-Packard gas chromatographs and mass selective detectors
  • Reviewing data
  • Entering computer data
  • Performing other duties as assigned by the department supervisor or lead technician
