Application Process
The number of training slots allocated to an agency is based on the number of employees. To determine the number of slots provided to a crime laboratory, count only examiners and/or technicians (do not include support personnel). The number of slots for other law enforcement agencies is based on sworn officers only. There is no need to prioritize training requests because every effort will be made to satisfy each agency’s allotted training requests.
Students must meet the specified course requirements to be considered for training. After the applications are received, a survey designed to determine student eligibility and to obtain planning information specific to each course will be sent to each applicant. This information will be used to plan course schedules, determine road school sites, and form class rosters of eligible students based on experience and expertise levels.
Application for distance learning courses do apply to the agency’s allocated slots. This year’s allocation schedule is as follows:
- 2 training slots for small agencies (20 or fewer employees)
- 4 training slots for medium-sized agencies (21 to 50 employees)
- 8 training slots for large agencies (more than 50 employees)
If you are employed by a laboratory system, these figures are the total number of slots for all employees, including those in branch labs. (A laboratory system is defined as one or more branch labs. A branch lab operates as an extension or satellite facility, physically separated from the main lab. It should be supervised or managed by an individual who has primary decision-making authority for that facility and who answers directly to the system lab director.)
Please complete one application form per agency. The form must be approved and signed by the head of the requesting agency.
