This course includes information from the National Guidelines for Death Investigation published by the National Institute of Justice. It prepares the investigator to do the following:

  • Conduct scientific, thorough, and systematic scene and telephonic investigations into deaths that by law are under the jurisdiction of the medicolegal office
  • Disseminate the investigative information to departmental forensic scientists to achieve a coordinated, efficient, and complete death inquiry

The course emphasizes the medical aspects of death investigation. It is not designed to be a homicide seminar.

The Saigh Foundation awarded a $50,000 grant to the American Academy of Forensic Sciences (AAFS) to provide 40 scholarships to middle and high school science teachers in the metropolitan St. Louis, Missouri, area. Information about the conference, including applications for 140 more middle and high school teachers from any state or country where there is AAFS affiliation to attend, will be posted on the Academy’s web site by January 31, 2002. This is an AAFS, Saigh Foundation, and Saint Louis University collaborative initiative.
