Schedule of Classes Announced Specialized Training Program for 2000
Jane M. Homeyer
Unit Chief
Forensic Science Training Unit
Federal Bureau of Investigation
Quantico, Virginia
The Specialized Training Program 2000 schedule is outlined below. The call for registration elicited 1,100 applicants before the September 30, 1999, deadline. Changes in the courses offered have been made to address the high demand for particular classes. For example, a distance learning course on DNA was originally scheduled for this year’s program. Instead, a multimedia course on forensic mass spectroscopy is being developed because a large number of applicants expressed interest in it. Additional classes may be added to the schedule to meet the requests for training that have not yet been accommodated.
Training 2000, which will be conducted by the FBI Laboratory’s Forensic Science Training Unit in Quantico, Virginia, was developed “to facilitate and provide high quality training and information exchange in the forensic sciences to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the FBI’s National Academy, and other federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies, including crime laboratories.”
One objective of the Specialized Forensic Science Training Program is to coordinate state-of-the-art forensic science and crime scene instruction for federal, state, and local law enforcement investigators and crime laboratory scientists and technicians. A second objective of the program is to ensure the efficient and equitable allocation of training resources.
To obtain additional information about the program and the courses, please contact Susan Villhauer (703-632-4622) or Jane Homeyer (703-632-4630) at the Forensic Science Training Unit of the FBI Laboratory Division.
