Overview
Current Year Over Previous Year Arrest Trends, by Sex, 2011–2012
- Nationwide, the number of males arrested in 2012 decreased 2.4 percent when compared with the number of those arrested in 2011. The number of females decreased 0.7 percent during this 2-year period.
- The number of juvenile (persons under age 18) males arrested in 2012 decreased 10.4 percent when compared with 2011 male juvenile arrest data. The number of juvenile female arrests decreased 10.5 percent.
- The two-year trend shows that the number of males arrested for violent crimes decreased 2.2 percent, and the number of females arrested for violent crimes decreased 0.1 percent.
- Arrests of juvenile males for violent crimes declined 11.3 percent, and arrests of juvenile females decreased 5.8 percent.
- When compared with data for 2011, arrests of males for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 0.1 percent, and arrests of females for murder decreased 4.3 percent in 2012.
- Arrests of juvenile males for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter decreased 15.9 percent, but arrests of juvenile females for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter increased 2.0 percent.
- The number of males arrested for property crimes in 2012 decreased 0.1 percent when compared with 2011 arrest data. The number of females arrested for property crimes increased 1.0 percent.
- The number of juvenile males arrested for property crimes decreased 9.6 percent, and the number of juvenile females decreased 15.0 percent.
