Maryland Man Indicted for Bank Robbery

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Edward Martin Andrews, 47, of Oxon Hill, Md., was indicted by an Alexandria federal grand jury yesterday on charges of bank robbery, using a firearm in the commission of the bank robbery, and possession of a firearm as a convicted felon.

Neil H. MacBride, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia; James W. McJunkin, Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI’s Washington Field Office; and Colonel David Rohrer, Fairfax County Chief of Police, made the announcement. If convicted, Andrews faces a maximum of 20 years in prison on the bank robbery count, and up to life in prison on the weapons counts.

According to court records, Andrews allegedly robbed the BB&T Bank at 2941 Chain Bridge Road in Oakton, Va., at gunpoint on June 8, 2011. A Fairfax County officer located Andrews on Interstate 495 and attempted to stop his vehicle. Andrews did not stop and officers pursued Andrews into Maryland, and then ultimately, Washington, D.C., where he was arrested. It is further alleged in court documents that police observed dye stains and money inside Andrew’s pants.

This case was investigated by the FBI’s Washington Field Office’s Violent Crimes Task Force and the Fairfax County Police Department. Special Assistant United States Attorney Marc J. Birnbaum is prosecuting the case on behalf of the United States.

Criminal indictments are only charges and not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty.
