Former NOVA United AAU Basketball Coach Sentenced to 60 Months for Receipt of Child Pornography

U.S. Attorney’s Office March 20, 2009
  • Eastern District of Virginia (703) 299-3700

ALEXANDRIA, VA—Thomas “Randy” White, age 54, of Arlington, Va., was sentenced today to 60 months in prison for receiving child pornography. White pled guilty on Dec. 4, 2008. Dana J. Boente, Acting United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, and Joseph Persichini, Jr., Assistant Director in Charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, made the announcement following White’s sentencing before United States District Court Judge Claude M. Hilton.

Upon his release from incarceration, White will remain under court supervision for 10 years. White also will be required to register as a sex offender in any jurisdiction in which he lives or works.

White, who has worked as a lobbyist in Washington, D.C., was also the long-time coach and director of the NOVA United AAU basketball league. He coached boys between the ages of 15 and 17 and ran the league from his home in Arlington.

White was identified by the FBI during a national investigation of individuals trading child pornography. As part of his plea, White admitted that in March and April of 2007 he downloaded numerous images of child pornography. A partial forensic examination of materials seized from White’s residence in February of 2008 uncovered hundreds of additional images and videos of child pornography.

The investigation was conducted by the FBI. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jay V. Prabhu on behalf of the United States.
