Leading up to the 2013 presidential inauguration, the FBI worked closely with partner law enforcement agencies, including the U.S. Secret Service, the Metropolitan Police Department, the U.S. Capitol Police, the U.S. Park Police, and the Joint Force Headquarters-National Capital Region/Military District of Washington to prepare for the event.

The FBI’s Washington Field Office had specialized response capabilities pre-positioned around the region to be prepared for any contingency. Our response capabilities included the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team, Evidence Response Team (ERT), Underwater Search and Evidence Response Team (USERT), hazardous materials team, special agent bomb technicians, weapons of mass destruction team, and crisis negotiators.

The Command and Tactical Operations Center, or CTOC, (pictured above) was in operation 24 hours a day for the duration of the event. Intelligence analysts worked side by side with FBI special agents as well as task force officers from multiple law enforcement agencies to ensure a safe and successful inauguration.
