  • Nationwide, the number of persons arrested in 2006 increased 3.7 percent when compared with arrest data for 2002. The number of adults arrested increased 5.1 percent, but the number of juveniles (individuals under age 18) arrested decreased 3.1 percent in the 5-year trend.
  • For violent crimes, the number of persons arrested increased 1.0 percent.
  • The number of juveniles arrested for murder and nonnegligent manslaughter and robbery rose 17.8 percent and 34.4 percent, respectively. Conversely, the number of juveniles arrested for forcible rape and aggravated assault declined 19.7 percent and 1.3 percent, respectively.
  • The number of persons arrested for property crimes declined 5.8 percent when data from 2006 were compared with 2002 numbers.
  • A comparison of drug abuse violation arrests in 2006 and 2002 showed an increase of 16.7 percent. Arrests of adults for this offense rose 18.8 percent, and arrests of juveniles were up 1.2 percent.
  • In 2006, the number of arrests for weapons violations (carrying, possessing, etc.) increased 20.2 percent from the 2002 level. The number of juveniles arrested rose 30.9 percent, and the number of adults arrested for this offense increased 17.2 percent.
