Throughout the Nation, nearly $15 billion dollars of property was reported stolen in 2006. In terms of the dollar value of stolen property, 31.0 percent of the value of all reported stolen property was recovered.
Of the types of property stolen, locally stolen motor vehicles had the highest percentage of property value recovered at 59.0 percent. Currency and household goods had the lowest, each with 4.0 percent of property value recovered.
Locally stolen motor vehicles, i.e., those stolen within the jurisdiction of the law enforcement agency that submitted the report, accounted for nearly $6.9 billion in stolen property.
