- The violent crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States in 2006 was 473.5.
- In Metropolitan Statistical Areas, the violent crime rate was 514.6 violent incidents per 100,000 inhabitants. In cities outside metropolitan areas, the violent crime rate was 382.4 per 100,000 inhabitants, and in nonmetropolitan counties, the violent crime rate was 199.2 per 100,000.
- The murder rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States was 5.7 offenses per 100,000 inhabitants.
- The murder rate in Metropolitan Statistical Areas was 6.2 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2006. The murder rate in cities outside metropolitan areas was 3.3 per 100,000 inhabitants in 2006, and the murder rate in nonmetropolitan counties in 2006 was 3.1 murders per 100,000 in population.
- The property crime rate per 100,000 inhabitants in the United States in 2006 was 3,334.5.
