Mr. Schiff: It's Memorial Day week and we remember those who served our great country. But there's people wearing military Medals of Honor they didn't earn. FBI Agent Tom Cottone says the company that used to make the medals for the government committed illegal acts...
Mr. Cottone: "They were illegally manufacturing hundreds of additional Medals of Honor and illegally selling them to various individuals around the country."
Mr. Schiff: Cottone says those buyers then broke the law...
Mr. Cottone: "What happened after that is many people that bought these illegally manufactured medals started wearing them and started representing themselves as actual recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor."
Mr. Schiff: Cottone says phony medals have been around since the Civil War...
Mr. Cottone: "When the Medal of Honor was first authorized, because that medal carries with it a lot of extra, let's say, prestige."
Mr. Schiff: If you display a fake Medal of Honor, you could be fined up to $100,000 and be sentenced to prison. I'm Neal Schiff of the Bureau and that's what's happening at the "FBI, This Week."
