FORT MYERS, FL—United States Attorney A. Brian Albritton announces the return of an indictment today charging Mark Everett Sharp (age 52, of West Palm Beach) with armed bank robbery, carjacking, and using a firearm during a crime of violence. Sharp faces a maximum penalty of life in federal prison.

The indictment alleges that Sharp committed robberies using a firearm at the Regions Bank in Lee County on October 6, 2008, the PNC Bank in Collier County on December 8, 2008, and the Florida Community Bank in Lee County on April 27, 2009. The indictment further alleges that Sharp committed an armed carjacking in Lee County on October 6, 2008.

This case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Collier County Sheriff’s Office, the Cape Coral Police Department, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office. It is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jeffrey F. Michelland.

A federal indictment is merely a formal charge that a defendant has committed a violation of the federal criminal laws, and every defendant is presumed innocent until, and unless, proven guilty.
