Lebanon Woman Sentenced for Bank Robbery

Carla R. Walker, 43, of Lebanon, Illinois, was sentenced on September 28, 2012, following her guilty plea to bank robbery, the United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, Stephen R. Wigginton, announced today. Walker was sentenced to 51 months’ imprisonment and three years of supervised release. Walker has been in custody since her arrest on March 28, 2012. There is no parole in the federal system.
Walker, referred to by the media as the “Flip Flop Bandit,” admitted to robbing the First Federal Savings Bank of Lebanon, Illinois, on March 26, 2012. Wearing bright green flip flop footwear, Walker entered First Federal Savings Bank around 4:30 p.m. on March 26, 2012. She approached a bank teller’s counter with a ransom note, pointed a pellet gun at the bank tellers, and demanded money. Walker obtained between $14,000 and $16,000 from the bank before ordering the tellers to the ground and warning them that other guns were trained on the bank.
The investigation was handled by the Lebanon Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Special Assistant United States Attorneys Matthew Brooks and Kelly Snyder handled the prosecution.
