Lake of Egypt Man Pleads Guilty to Sending Threatening Mail

On April 28, 2011, a Lake of Egypt man pled guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with sending threatening mail, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois Stephen R. Wigginton announced today.

Samirkumar Hasmukhlal Mody, a/k/a "Samir," and "Sam," 45, of Lake of Egypt, Illinois, pled guilty to a one-count indictment charging him with sending threatening mail on January 27, 2011, in Williamson County. Information provided during the plea hearing established that Mody sent a threatening letter to the Ramesses Lounge, located at Rt-37 S, in Marion. In that letter, Mody threatened to kill and "blast everybody at [Ramesses] loung[e] by chemical tubes."

The offense carries a penalty of up to five years' imprisonment, a fine of up to $250,000, and three years' supervised release. Sentencing has been scheduled for August 4, 2011.

The investigation was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and Williamson County Sheriff’s Department. The case is assigned to Assistant United States Attorney Amanda A. Robertson for prosecution.
