Grand Jury Charges Springfield Woman with Identity Theft

SPRINGFIELD, IL—A federal grand jury returned an indictment this afternoon charging a Springfield, Illinois woman, Lisa M. Nunn, 30, with identity theft. The indictment alleges that from Oct 1 through Oct. 13, 2009, Nunn, of the 1200 block of West Governor, used another person’s name and Social Security number with the intent to commit fraud and that she obtained more than $1,000 during a one-year period.

The charges were investigated by the Springfield Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Patrick J. Chesley.

A summons will be issued by the U.S. Clerk of the Court for Nunn to make her initial appearance in federal court on a date to be determined by the Clerk.

If convicted, identity theft carries a maximum statutory penalty of 15 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.

Members of the public are reminded that an indictment is merely an accusation; the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty.
