Wood River Man Sentenced for Tax Evasion

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on July 30, 2009, RICKI LEE JONES, age 55, of Wood River, Illinois, was sentenced in federal district court, Benton, Illinois, following his plea of guilty to a one-count Information charging him with Tax Evasion. JONES was sentenced to 15 months’ imprisonment, two years’ supervised release, a $100 special assessment, and a fine of $114,654. The court also ordered restitution totaling $3,642,507.50. JONES paid the restitution at the time of sentencing.

The case was investigated by agents of the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
