Arrest in ATM Theft Case

FBI Springfield March 16, 2009
  • Special Agent Marshall Stone (217) 522-9675

FBI Special Agent in Charge, Karen E. Spangenberg, announced the arrest of Travis J. Paulsen today for Bank Theft. Paulsen, age 22, from Bettendorf, Iowa , was arrested as a result of a joint investigation into the theft of funds from the Deere Harvester Credit Union (DHCU) ATM. On March 04, 2009 , DHCU reported that someone broke into the ATM, located at 338 6th Street, Moline, Illinois, and fled with the cash.

A joint investigation by the Moline Police Department, Bettendorf Police Department and the FBI resulted in a federal criminal complaint that alleges Paulson previously worked for Lewis System of Iowa (LSI), an armored car company who manages the currency in the DHCU ATM. The complaint also alleges that Paulson paid cash for a new motorcycle in Bettendorf, Iowa on March 11, 2009.

According to the complaint, on March 12, 2009, the Bettendorf Police Department located Paulsen in Bettendorf and recovered a bag containing approximately $49,000 in cash, inside the vehicle that Paulsen was driving.

Paulson is expected to appear this afternoon in the United States District Court in Rock Island, Illinois.

Members of the public are reminded that all defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
