Wood River Man Pleads Guilty to Tax Evasion

A. Courtney Cox, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Illinois, announced today that on January 22, 2009, RICKI LEE JONES, age 55, of Wood River, Illinois, pled guilty in federal district court, Benton, Illinois, to a one-count Information charging him with Tax Evasion. The violation took place regarding tax year 2003. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 23, 2009. The maximum penalties that can be imposed for this violation are 5 years’ imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, 3 years’ supervised release, and a $100 special assessment.

The case was investigated by agents of the Internal Revenue Service and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen B. Clark.
