  • Eastern District of Washington (509) 353-2767

SPOKANE—Michael C. Ormsby, United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, announced that Michael Wayne Alexander, age 55, formerly a resident of Colville, Washington, was sentenced yesterday in United States District Court.

On May 18, 2010, the grand jury issued a two-count indictment charging Michael Wayne Alexander with (1) being an unlawful user of controlled substances in possession of a firearm, and (2) for maintaining drug-involved premises. Michael Wayne Alexander was arrested June 8, 2010, when he was living in Burlington, Washington. He has been detained in custody since that time. On February 17, 2011, Michael Wayne Alexander pleaded guilty to both counts in the indictment. Michael Wayne Alexander was ordered to serve five years in prison, followed by a three-year term of court supervision.

The investigation revealed that Michael Wayne Alexander had been allowing people to openly use methamphetamine in his house on Valley Westside Road, Colville, Washington, since at least 2000. The investigation showed that Michael Wayne Alexander was in possession of various firearms during the time he was providing, using, and sharing methamphetamine with numerous people in his home. In January 2009, a search warrant was served at his home and officers seized methamphetamine, marijuana, heroin, drug paraphernalia, and video tapes. During the search, officers located ammunition for a .357 caliber and .45 caliber firearms. During a subsequent search of a storage unit belonging to Michael Wayne Alexander, officers seized a .357 caliber Ruger revolver, a .45 caliber Remington handgun, and more homemade videotapes. The video tapes showed Michael Wayne Alexander using methamphetamine with other people in his home and shop.

Michael C. Ormsby, U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Washington, said, “Those who are involved in the use of illegal substances while possessing firearms pose a dangerous threat to our communities and will be responded to accordingly. People who use illegal substances cannot possess firearms nor can people allow others to use illegal substances on their property.”

This investigation was conducted by the Stevens County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by Earl Hicks and Timothy Ohms, Assistant U.S. Attorneys for the Eastern District of Washington.
