SAN JUAN, PR—FBI San Juan Division Special Agent in Charge Carlos Cases announced the arrest of JOSE HECTOR GUIVAS-SOTO for transportation of a minor with intent to engage in prostitution and criminal sexual activity and for providing false statements to the FBI. On January 8, 2014, GUIVAS-SOTO was taken into custody by the FBI.

The criminal complaint states that GUIVAS-SOTO transported a 15-year-old female from his residence located at or near Puerto Nuevo, Puerto Rico to a strip club known as Lips located in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, with the intent that she engage in prostitution and sexual activity, constituting a criminal offense under the laws of the United States.

GUIVAS-SOTO also made fraudulent statements to FBI agents during a telephonic interview that he did not know anything about the whereabouts of the minor female and that he only had seen her once on January 5, 2014, when she had purportedly asked him to use his cellular telephone to contact her family, and that thereafter, they immediately parted ways.

If convicted, the defendant faces no less than 10 years up to life imprisonment.

This case is being prosecuted by United States Attorney Marshal D. Morgan and is being investigated by the FBI.

The public is reminded that a criminal complaint contains only charges and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is presumed to be innocent until and unless proven guilty. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
