SAN JUAN—On January 1, 2012 at approximately 9:30 a.m., Police of Puerto Rico Officer Sergeant (Sgt.) Abimael Castro-Berrocales conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle on State Road 100, km. 1.7, in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico. Sgt. Castro-Berrocales apparently made contact with the driver of the vehicle, and while he was in the process of issuing a traffic citation, he was shot two times in the head and killed. Part of the evidence found at the crime scene was a partially completed traffic citation by the deceased officer. Shortly after the incident, the perpetrator of this crime was seen fleeing on State Road 311.

The FBI is offering a reward of up to $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the individual(s) responsible for the murder of Sgt. Castro-Berrocales.

Anyone with information regarding this incident may contact the San Juan FBI, 24 hours a day, at (787) 754-6000 or the Police of Puerto Rico-Homicide Division at (787) 832-9696.
