FBI Fugitive Wanted in Wisconsin Arrested

FBI San Juan April 07, 2009
  • Special Agent Carlos Osorio (787) 759-1550

On April 6, 2009, during a routine name check, LIOSONY PEREZ-SOSA, age 32, was detained and arrested by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security-Customs and Border Protection. On this date, Perez was a passenger aboard the Mayaguez Ferry which was arriving in Puerto Rico from the Dominican Republic. During this routine name check, it was determined there was an outstanding arrest warrant for Perez from the FBI-Milwaukee Field Office.

On July 15, 2008, a Federal Grand Jury from the Eastern District of Wisconsin charged Perez with one count of Conspiracy to distribute and Possession with intent to distribute cocaine. The indictment alleges between January 2005 until July 2008, Perez and others intentionally conspired to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute more than five kilograms of cocaine and more than 50 grams of crack cocaine.

On April 7, 2009, Perez had his initial appearance before U.S. Magistrate Chief Judge Justo Arenas, whereby, Perez was detained, pending his Identity and Removal hearing which has been scheduled for April 17, 2009 at 9:30 a.m.

If convicted, he faces a minimum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment or a maximum penalty of up to life imprisonment.

The public is reminded that an indictment is not evidence of any guilt. A defendant is presumed innocent and entitled to a fair trial. The U.S. government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
