FBI San Diego Presents the 2013 Director’s Community Leadership Award to Ahmed Idlle Founder of San Diego Youth Athletics

FBI San Diego January 09, 2014

Daphne Hearn, Special Agent in Charge (SAC) of FBI San Diego, is pleased to announce Ahmed Idlle, founder of San Diego Youth Athletics, as the 2013 recipient of the Director’s Community Leadership Award (DCLA). SAC Hearn presented the award to Mr. Idlle in front of members of the community he serves, his colleagues, and law enforcement partners during the Somali Law Enforcement Roundtable meeting on Wednesday, January 8, 2014.

The DCLA was created in 1990 and is awarded to community leaders in each of the FBI’s 56 field offices. The award recognizes those who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to keep America and its children safe. It is a way to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America.

Mr. Idlle, through his organization, San Diego Youth Athletics (SDYA), provides children in the City Heights neighborhood a safe place to grow and socialize through athletics. The mission statement of the SDYA is to offer a safe and fun environment that promotes and generates educational and athletic opportunities for youth. SAC Hearn echoes this mission and states, “Individuals like Mr. Idlle are an inspiration to any community. His dedication to keeping the children and the families of City Heights safe is honorable. Mr. Idlle took on the task of starting an organization which provides youth an alternative to drugs and violence, while teaching them respect, responsibility, and commitment. FBI San Diego is proud to award the 2013 DCLA to Mr. Idlle and the SDYA.”

FBI Director James B. Comey will formally present the DCLA award to all 2013 recipients during a ceremony at FBI Headquarters in the spring.

The SDYA is currently in their basketball season. Games are played at the Copley YMCA on Saturdays from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. To find out more about the SDYA, or to get involved, go to their webpage at www.sandiegoyouthathletics.org or contact Mr. Ahmed Idlle at sandiegoyouthathletics@yahoo.com.
